Maddy with our new President Alma Dender

Maddy Platts spoke on the 'Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment' (RYPEN)

Maddy Platts stated that she was quite apprehensive about going along to the RYPEN program and wondered what the people she would meet would be like. She thought they would all be 'nerds' and she would be the only 'squid'. On arriving at the event she was pleasantly surprised to find that she fitted in really well.

She enjoyed the program thoroughly. She started out quite hesitant about debating and public speaking and found that by the end of the program she quite liked it. She gained significant confidence from the experience, not to mention the fun.

An enjoyable debate was one with the girls against the boys. The girls had to take the position that the guys were the stronger sex and the boys had to argue that the girls were stronger. Naturally the boys won! or did they?

Maddy was impressed by the freedom and difference in the leadership style of their mentor and this also made a difference to her experience at the event.

Maddy is presented with our club banner
